Should we hire a professional landscaper?

I know it all depends on how much money we have to spend. My husband and I have been working on our front yard for quite some time now. The people before didn’t really take good care of the fron lawn. We have so far laid out a lot of sod because there were big patches of dirt. We are now taking out a lot white rock because it just doesn’t look attractive anymore, and we are thinking of laying brown multch. There’s a lot of other things we need to do. Do you hire or do it yourself?

how do I take care of my new lawn?

I have a small front yard. Last year I had a landscaper come in and place some sod down. I was very happy with it. Now the snow has melted and it’s a new year. How do I keep it healthy? What products do I use?

Soil amendment products ?

I need to cover about 800 sq ft of sod but need to rototill the are first. Before I do this, I understand that I should add a soil amendment. So my question: Are there any good soil amendment products that I can just hook up to my garden hose, to spray the area I want to lay sod on? This would seem to be a much faster and less expensive solution than to buy compost products that come in bags. Also, can this product be found in store like Home Depot or Orchard?
I saw products like Lawn Honey and SoilSyrup found on this site: http://www.megagro.com/lawn-care.htm. I would try them out but it looks like you can only order online and I’d like to start tilling this weekend. So I’m looking for something similar but that I can find at a local store.

New Lawn being put in?

Hello all I have a general lawn keeping question. I am a new home owner and the landscapers are out today finishing putting in my new lawn they are laying down the sod today. I have never had a yard to take care of before and wanted to know if anyone has any tips or advice with new grass? Is there anything special you need to do besides the obvious watering? Thanks

How do I care for my new sod?

I just had sod laid in my backyard. I live in the desert, it’s 109 out right now. Part of my new lawn is shaded. how often should I water? What time of the day? And how long do I water it (minutes). Also, when can I walk on it? When can my large dog walk on it/use it to relieve himself?

I just bought my house a year ago and I am new to all this lawn care. In the front yard I have Bermuda grass and it has alot of dry spots. How can I get it to be full, green and healthy? Also My back yard has tons of weeds and a little bit of grass here and there, lots of little rocks all over….and lots of ants! I try to dig out as much weeds as i can but it is never ending! the roots are spread out under the dirt. What’s the best way to get rid of all the different weeds so I can put in some new sod? Ahhh…I need help!!

Thanks

This is my first home and I know little about lawn care. Since my builder installed the sod, I don’t know if he did everything that should have been done prior to and following the installation

Is it best to aerate or just re- sod an old lawn?

I live in Chicago, I have unsuccessfully tried for two summers now to make my lawn look decent. I am very frustrated at this point. My lawn is approx 9000 sq ft and has some sunken in spots (few) but I believe the dirt is really compacted. It has bald patches, brown patches, weeds, you name it-It’s not horrible looking, I am told, but it’s not that lush green lawn I want. I’ve come a long way, though- the previous owner was an elderly woman that had not taken care of it in years. There was no grass to speak of really when I first moved in, so I have made progress I guess.

Sorry for rambling :) – given the area I need to take care of by myself. Is it easier to re-sod, aerate and re-seed or move away? (just kidding) ANY advice would be appreciated.
OH!- Should I rent a machine or can a manual one that seeds and aerates do the job? (Like the ones at Home Depot)

I need to green up my lawn. I was wondering how long it takes. IT is really brown. Not dead i dont think, there are dead spots.(that will not come back.) what should i do about them. And i am gonna post another question with a photo of my house and i want to know what i should do with it. LIke what i should landscape it. That will be later though. So if you think you have cute ideas add me as favorite or whatever. I have a little pond ion the backyard and stuff. And in the front i have a section with some ugly bark and a LARGE ugly garden. Its all to much to take care of and i need sod. BUt anyways i should give those details later.
The dead spots were just from not water when spring had started. and the whole grase isnt brown, just some spots.

If your lawn is destroyed by grubs where do they go?

My neighborhood is newer and I think all of us that buoght sod got grubs included in it so a few of those that are novices at taking care of a yard have lost their lawns, now once it is gone where do the grubs go? Is there a chance if you resod or seed they will come back up to the surface and eat your lawn again?
When the lawn is gone the grubs are in the caterpiller stage, correct? So where do those go? Do they retreat back underground and resurface in the next spring to destroy your lawn again? My lawn is great I am familiar with these suckers but one of our neighbors lost their lawn and after a month resodded, so will those grubs resurface or do they die when the lawn dies?
