I am 14 and have a really bad allergy to poison ivy and my dad is in his 50’s he still thinks that he is 30 and can do everything. He works 6 days a week and only has one day off and on that day he doesn’t really have the energy to do the work. I try my best to do what i can but its a lot for one person our yard is huge! My mom and i keep getting estimates but my dad won’t let us go ahead with any of the landscapers. I am so embarrassed of the lawn because now its summer and everyone is taking care of there lawn except us. I have no idea what to do please help!

We are renovating our house and it poses a hazard. I have talked to the mom but she does not care (In fact, she lets and watches them do it!) and they still come in our yard. I have called CPS and that has not worked. I have a soft spot for kids but I am tired of the problem; what should I do?
The problem is some of these kids are 1 and 2 years old…I don’t want to yell at them…a one year old would not understand.

Tips on growing a beautiful lawn for a dummy?

My family lives in a cul-de-sac and I feel as though our family is known to be the one that doesn’t take care of their lawn. The house across from us has a beautiful even green lawn. My house has mixtures of weeds, clovers, dandelions, purple flowers, white flowers, crabgrass, light green grass, dark green grass, yellow grass, potholes, thick, thin, dead…(i could keep going on). I’m the one that "takes care" of the lawn by mowing and trimming it every two weeks or so. My mom works all the time and my sister doesn’t do anything. I’m only 18 and not sure where to start. I applied some Scotch Turf Builder not too long ago after mowing my lawn for the first time this year. I’m hoping for the best.

I’ve done some research and found out there’s different types of grass. Like I said, I don’t know anything about grass and my lawn’s a jungle. What starting steps should I take to make my lawn better?

I live in Tennessee, so the seasons are pretty evened out. Winters are cold and summers are getting hotter. My front lawn is on a slight downward slope to the street and receives the most sun during the day. My back lawn is shaded by my house and looks better than my front lawn but does not compare to my neighbor’s lawn at all.

Please Help!!

Help with drought-tolerant plant?

I am in Oklahoma where it is VERY hot and dry. I planted basket of gold about a month ago and it keeps on dying. I am afraid to NOT water it because it has been 93-100 degrees the whole time with no rain. Am I over watering them? I don’t give them LOTS of water, just a squirt at the base of the plant from a garden hose early in the morning. Help…I’m trying to plant gardens for my Mom that are no/low maintenance since the gardener in the family, my Dad, passed away at Christmas. Thanks!

I have a 13 year old boy that has been offered a job doing lawncare for summer . This involves lawnmowing and grass fertilizing.
A family member has told me NO, this is harmful for such a young person.
Is this really true??
Handymam, you sweetheart! Yes, this is his mom asking because I have been told it is harmful. But we no longer are allowed to use pesticides in Canada, only fertilizer-http://www.inspection.gc.ca/english/plaveg/fereng/ferengfse.shtml
[I just found this site]
I also must thank the first 2 responses, they were most helpful also.
So with saying that[about pesticides being not used in Canada], I am still not clear if the fertilizer poses a health risk.
As for the lawnmower, it is not a riding one….and he is so excited as his 21 year old brother has asked him to help this year with the lawn care….but it is Dad that is saying ‘I think fertilizer is unsafe’….I am trying to prove him wrong! :)
I am going to show him this thread tomorrow in hopes our son can go to work, learn to work young, and make his own money.
Thankyou so very much for these answers.
Ps, -I feel so badly, I want to choose all answers as ‘best answer’. You have all given such helpful answers.
Oh! what to do!

Unscrew garden hose in freezing weather?

Why does my mom ask me to unscrew the hose from the faucet when it is about to be a freezing temperature? She asks me to even when there isn’t any water in the hose (no sprayer attachment). I don’t see what difference it makes when the hose doesn’t have any water in it and there isn’t any pressurized water in the hose or pipes.
I know that water expands when it gets cold, and I know that water could collect in the coil part of the hose. But if the hose isn’t full of water and isn’t under pressure (sprayer attachement), I don’t see why the water wouldn’t just freeze at the coil part and leave the faucet part alone, since the faucet is elevated… Unless it has something to do with air pressure between the frozen water at the coil on the ground and where the hose screws into the faucet.

My mom went on vacation and asked me to stop by her house every few days to check her mail and water her flowers, etc. Apparently when I left her house Friday night I didn’t get the garden hose turned off. (Which doesn’t make sense to me anyway, because I distinctly remember turning it back off before I left her house Friday, but whatever.) When I went back to mom’s on Monday evening I found the garden hose running and a huge puddle of standing water in her back yard. How much is her water bill going to be now? I am afraid it is going to be through the roof and my mom is going to wring my neck! I am afraid to even tell my mom what happened. Is there anything I can do? Would it help if I called the water dept. and explained it to them and see if they could make an adjustment? Or asked them to send the difference in the bill directly to me? Help!

My garden hose exploded?

my mom was outside and she apparently found the hose and multi-head spray thing were completely destroyed. she burst into my room to yell at me for it but i didnt do it. nobody else in my family would have done it so its really strange…. the thing is completely destroyed is there a reason why this kind of damage might happen by its self?
it looks like a car after a head on crash at 100mph
hoses dont explode because there is a kink in it. this thing is like, there had to be explosives involved.

how do i install a garden hose?

my mom bought a new one and i have to install it but i have no idea how. (i’m 15 by the way)
as in which end do i use. the one that looks like a handle of some sort or the other side.

How do I start up a lawn-care business?

I know nothing about lawn-care, but I imagine it wouldn’t be too difficult to learn. I can start learning on my mom’s lawn.
I still work there. I would much rather be self-employed and outside.
