I’m a new home owner and have never had to care for grass before. I saw some weeds in my lawn and decided to buy some weed and feed. I went to Home Depot and asked the sales person what weed and feed product he recommended. He asked me what kind of grass I had. I let him know I was not sure, so he recommended I use Sta Green Weed and Feed, which I applied on my St. Augustine lawn (which I figured out later). It’s been a few weeks now and I’ve noticed brown areas in my grass. I was searching the internet trying to research why my grass is dying and noticed that I should not use a herbacide 2, 4-D on St. Augustine grass. I checked the ingredients of the Sta Green Weed and Feed and noticed that it has this 2, 4-D herbacide in it. I’m now worried that my whole lawn is going to turn brown. Is there anything I can do or is it too late? I appreciate any suggestions or ideas.

Hello all,
I have a question about a remedy for my lawn. Here’s a quick background. The previous owner of my house did not take care of the lawn at all. I have about a half acre of lawn.
The front yard is mostly St. Augustine grass. At the center it’s St. Augustine, and around the edges there are Bermuda and weeds creeping in. Near the foundation there is some Tall Fescue (that was my bad, I needed a filler grass for dirt spots and I just randomly picked it up at Home Depot). The old owner said he chose St. Augustine for the front because it does well in shade and we have two full grown trees in the front yard that provide some shade.
The side yard is all Bermuda with a lot of weeds. The backyard is the same story, but with way more weeds. In fact it is nearly all weed at this point. He said he chose Bermuda for the back because it is almost all in the sun. P.S. I hate having 2 different kinds of grass.
So I’m looking for advice on the best way to revive the entire yard. I have a friend who does a lot of lawn work who recommended discing up my yard to give it air and break up some of the weeds, smoothing it out with a box blade, and overseeding it with Bermuda along with Scotts turfbuilder. That’s fine and dandy for the backyard and side yard if that is true, but what do I do about my front yard. I have been told St. Augustine does not exist in seed form.
Your wise advice would be appreciated. Please do not offer opinion, I’m looking only for solid, experience filled answers.
Thanks!

I need to cover about 800 sq ft of sod but need to rototill the are first. Before I do this, I understand that I should add a soil amendment. So my question: Are there any good soil amendment products that I can just hook up to my garden hose, to spray the area I want to lay sod on? This would seem to be a much faster and less expensive solution than to buy compost products that come in bags. Also, can this product be found in store like Home Depot or Orchard?
I saw products like Lawn Honey and SoilSyrup found on this site: http://www.megagro.com/lawn-care.htm. I would try them out but it looks like you can only order online and I’d like to start tilling this weekend. So I’m looking for something similar but that I can find at a local store.

I need to replace a part that my garden hose attaches to. I’m not sure of the name, but I think it’s called a hose bib (?). To make it easier, I’ve taken pictures ( http://www.flickr.com/photos/34200763@N03/ )
The entire apparatus is photo 3. I found the Watts NF8 piece on Amazon ( http://www.amazon.com/Watts-Brass-Tubular-NF8-Breaker/dp/B000BQYCX4 ). Anyone know what the part in photo 1 and photo 2 are?
I’ve tried getting parts from Home Depot and Loews, but the thread seems to be different size as it just keeps rotating and and doesn’t lock in. That’s why I’m looking for this exact part.
Thanks!
I should clarify: Anyone know where I can buy or order this part?
Thanks!

I bought a 13hp honda cold water pressure washing machine a few years ago and when I started it the other day, all seemed ok. It started only after 3 pulls, but then once I tried to use it, no water came out. Now, I know a little about pressure washers but maybe someone out there is an expert. I checked the trap which has a screen in it to stop dirt, debri etc from entering the pump. It was clean. My garden hose is not clogged with anything and yes, the water was on. My only guess is that maybe the pump is shot. I checked the pump oil and it is clean and full. I even took the wand off the pressure washing hose to make sure it isnt the wand, still no water coming out of the hose. If its the pump, is it worth taking to get fixed or maybe a new pump installed. I only payed about 800 bucks for it at Home Depot and made my money back on it in a month or so but It would kill me to toss it especially when the engine still runs like a top. Please let me know if you have any suggestions. thanks

I live in Chicago, I have unsuccessfully tried for two summers now to make my lawn look decent. I am very frustrated at this point. My lawn is approx 9000 sq ft and has some sunken in spots (few) but I believe the dirt is really compacted. It has bald patches, brown patches, weeds, you name it-It’s not horrible looking, I am told, but it’s not that lush green lawn I want. I’ve come a long way, though- the previous owner was an elderly woman that had not taken care of it in years. There was no grass to speak of really when I first moved in, so I have made progress I guess.
Sorry for rambling
– given the area I need to take care of by myself. Is it easier to re-sod, aerate and re-seed or move away? (just kidding) ANY advice would be appreciated.
OH!- Should I rent a machine or can a manual one that seeds and aerates do the job? (Like the ones at Home Depot)

"I have brown patch (a lawn guy diagnosed it) on my very nice st
augustine lawn in Austin, TX and it is spreading really fast!
I am planning to use Turfcide 10 from Home depot on it. I hope that
works.
Are there any special instructions for the spray or the granules. Like
do I water in? When? Do I spray all over or only the part with brown
spot?
How much time does it take for the lawn to show effects?
If my lawn has been fertilized in August, should I still go ahead and
fertilize it for the winter using Winterizer.
So many questions. Would appreciate answers to all of them cause I know
nothing about lawns!! (obviously:)
Anything else that helps me care for my lawn is welcome too. Thanks in
advance for the advice."

Just bought a house that has a huge back yard. Beyond the back yard is a very large field so there is tons of space for bugs. My son has horrible allergies and gets bitten by any and everything. Is there some sort of grass fertilizer stuff or a safe for kids and pets chemical i can spray on the grass to reduce the amount of chiggers and other pesky insects that like to live in the grass so I don’t have to worry so much about him playing in the yard? Is it something I can get at Walmart or Home Depot or something?

I need the basics on watering, soil requirements, and anything else I don’t know to ask. I am very much a novice here, so please don’t hesitate to answer me as though I were a two-year-old. Gardening jargon will only go over my head. I would just ask the guys at Home Depot, but they had a tough enough time grasping the fact that they do sell garden hoses somewhere in their store. I’m afraid to push my luck.
Thanks for the help.
