I have Zoysia grass in my yard in one spot; its a fairly large patch; and it has been spreading – somewhat. It does well. Can anyone offer me general health care tips for this lawn (which is very nice looking) and tell me how to encourage it to spread? I’m a novice lawn care person, so please be clear (like don’t just say put fertilizer around it, I don’t know what month to do that in…).
Thanks alot for any help

Here are some particulars: live in PA, have about a third of an acre with about a 10, 50-60 year old trees in my yard. There’s a mix of grass, moss, weeds, and other organic matter (acorns, twigs, needles, etc) on the ground now. I’m trying to grow grass effectively. This is the third spring we’ve been here, and in the previous two years, I’ve put down random 2-3 pound bags of grass to try to get some of the repair started. It’s pretty spotty and I did notice that this spring, some of the seed that I planted in the past 2 years had surprisingly began to emerge! But it’s still pretty thin.
I’m not interested in tearing up the whole lawn and starting from scratch. I’m interested in perhaps trying some of those new products like Scotts EZ Seed, but want to perhaps mix it with another seed to a) control costs, and b) have a grass that can grow fast, but live throughout the year and remain after the grounds thaw in the winter. Is this doable? If so, what are your tips to help my partial lawn grow into a nice, thick lawn?
BQ, I just spread some weed ‘n feed in my front lawn, how long should I wait to spread seed so that the new seed won’t burn from the fertilizer?
I appreciate the input. But I will also add that my neighbors have GREAT lawns. So my physical attributes don’t matter TOO much. I’m just wondering how I can get over the hump!

I live in Missouri and I have a new house. In September, the yard was seeded and hay was spread over the yard. The lawn grew very sparse despite proper care. Before I go buy fertilizer and new seed I need some advice about what works best this time of year and in clay soil. Also, should I leave all the hay that is already there or rake it up? I have always lived in the city and have never had a lawn. Please be thorough. Thank you.

My dad said it would act as a fertilizer..but i’m not so sure about that. So should i leave it there? or what would be the best way to take care of cut grass

I have a huge lawn (~3 acres). I use a kubota to mow it which takes about 2 hours. My wife and I used to pay a lawn service to take care of the weeds and fertilize it. They would spray the entire lawn for weeds then push one those devices that would scatter fertilizer. It got to expensive so we stopped. I would like to do it myself. What kind of weed killer to the lawn services use? It must be available in bulk because it would be 2 expensive and time consuming to keep buying small bottles from a store. Also what is used to fertilize a lawn. How can I do it myself?

Sometimes people put these little white pellets all over their lawns and it gets on the sidewalk. They have a very strong odor. I’m guessing it’s some sort of lawn-care chemical. What is it exactly? Fertilizer or pesticide?
I’m wondering because my brother (10 years old) got some on his feet today, while playing barefoot on the sidewalk. He says his feet keep burning, and they are really red underneath.

A few weeks ago i put some scotts super turf builder fertilizer on my lawn along with some grass seeds. After getting it cut today i noticed how pretty and green it was….it looked like plush green rug. I have to admit that im proud of myself because this is my first home and the first time that i have ever attempted to take care of a lawn and just a few weeks ago the grass was so yellow and dry. My question is how do i maintain that pretty green plush look? I havent been watering it everyday but then it hasent been that hot either…not yet anyway.
Should i buy more fertilizer and grass seeds or should i just water it everyday once the weather gets hotter? Also i saw a some seeds called kentucky blue glass and i thought about buying that but i thought maybe im jumping gun being that im a rookie at this. Any suggestion on what i should do to maintain my lawn is appreciated? Thanks!

When summer comes around, I would like to fix my lawn because the people that were in my house before me, obviously did not care for it. The grass looks bad and there are couple sunken areas that make it tough to cut and I also don’t want kids to twist an ankle if they’re playing my yard. Should I just use a roto-tiller and tear up the entire lawn? If I do that, can I just throw hay and fertilizer over it? Would I have to scrape off the old grass if I roto-till? Thanks, and any advice on grading those sunken areas are appreciated.

we have owned the house for 2 years and now that I have most of my lawn care "stuff" I would like to start to try and get a nice looking front lawn even though its sloped and not perfect I would still like it to be green at least. However I think I may have a slight mole or vole problem as I see some soft spots in the grass and small hills…Id rather not kill them if at all possibly just getting them to leave would be my first choise. So how to get rid of the moles and whats good seed and fertilizer or whatever to get the yard looking greener?
Thank You
Glenn
