I have two areas in my back yard that are over grown with weeds and it’s just a mess. I would like to KILL the weeds, put that black tarp down and turn them into beautiful flower beds. The areas are huge one is maybe the size of an average master bedroom with bath and the other a normal size "kids" room each on the left and right side of my screened back porch. My husband isn’t a huge help so I am mostly along in this endeavor. HELP what are the step I can take to clean these places up and my my yard the envy of the neighborhood :) Thanks for honest answers that are truly helpful.

We have lived here for about a year now, and last summer we had patches of grass in the back yard which is flat, and the rest of the yard was nothing but weeds… our front yard had grass in the spring, and turned slowly into mostly weeds, and mole hills. I’ve never taken care of a lawn, I am not sure where to start and when to start it. Please help me, instructions, sites, whatever. It’s almost spring and I don’t want to miss my window of oppurtunity to have a beautiful lawn.

I just bought my house a year ago and I am new to all this lawn care. In the front yard I have Bermuda grass and it has alot of dry spots. How can I get it to be full, green and healthy? Also My back yard has tons of weeds and a little bit of grass here and there, lots of little rocks all over….and lots of ants! I try to dig out as much weeds as i can but it is never ending! the roots are spread out under the dirt. What’s the best way to get rid of all the different weeds so I can put in some new sod? Ahhh…I need help!!

Thanks

How do I renovate this lawn? (pics included)?

This is my first back yard. I know NOTHING about lawn care.
50% of it is weeds right now, 25% is bare, and the other 25% is grass. I want a nice grass backyard.

It doesn’t get any direct sunlight, that’s about all I know.
here are the pics:

Please provide me step by step what I need to do. For example, if I need to get weed killer, which one do you recommend? how long will it take, etc., etc. I literally know nothing about lawn care.

Hello All!
Due to some recent life changes, for the first time in my life… I had the task of lawn care. And I failed, massively.

I hired someone to come and mow once a week, and thought that was good enough. Wow, was I wrong. My sprinkler system recently broke and I put off repairing it, always thinking "Next week..". From the time of noticing that the lawn looked a bit yellow – to it looking like stray hay – completely snuck up on me (although most anyone else would probably see it coming). I never realized what was involved in caring for my lawn until I had to do it by myself. I previously thought it looked nice when I looked out the window because it just naturally grew that way ~ all pretty and green. Hey, it’s grass!

So moving forward, the mailman told me it’s dead. A delivery guy this week laughed and said it’s just ‘dormant’ from the heat and lack of water. So my question is: Can I get it *out* of this dormancy?

I guess what I have is Kentucky Blue Grass. Hooking up hoses to sprinklers, I’ve watered to the point of probably flooding it the past 3 days in a row, dumping around 7000 gallons of water per day, by my (very) calculated estimates (decent sized front yard + X-large back yard). Each evening, before I begin the watering, I put my hand into the grass, and it’s never still wet from before, so I proceed. And if my mind isn’t playing tricks on me.. I’ve noticed a few stray green blades shining in through the yellow hay.

Honestly, as shallow as it sounds, the distinct division that is drawn between my god-awful yellow grass, and the surrounding neighbors’ manicured green lawns is causing me a lot of embarrassment right now, to the point that I’m almost avoiding eye contact when I pull out of my garage each day, ha. People walking their dogs have stopped and asked, "So what happened??" which doesn’t make it any better. And my co-worker asking if someone set my yard on fire, made me secretly want to punch her. It almost looks like someone poured bleach in a perfect line between our lawns, and I feel like a complete idiot for letting this happen.

So I guess my question is ~ should I continue on with my excessive watering for several more days and see if there’s hope of bringing it out of dormancy? Or do I cut back to only watering every other day pretty soon? I’m open to following any plan that might help. Thanks so much for reading my very long question. :-)
Hi – and thanks so soo much. To the first poster, CC, I live in Nebraska, and I didn’t know there was such a thing as winter grass that would start growing!

As for grass seeds and replanting, that’s always an option. I envisioned that taking a lonnng time, but maybe it doesn’t. I’d be up for this..

Regarding the ‘fake lawn’ – I don’t know what it is yet, and I love it already, hahaha! But yes, I do have a dog.

Questions about Lawn Care.?

Ever since my husband and I moved into our new home in the Seattle, WA area we have had problems with our lawn! I know problems are expected but the things we have tried haven’t worked and we don’t know much about lawn care. So here’s the situation we have moss in our front yard. We have tried two different moss killers, I can’t remember what they are called right now, and one did nothing and the other started to work but not completely. Our back yard needs to be reseeded but we aren’t sure when is the best time. Also we get puddles in some of our yard when it rains which makes the yard muddy. Does anyone have any suggestions? Also I know we have to aerate but I am not sure when to do that either, after moss killer, before seeding? Please help!

What type of grass grows the best on Long Island?

I was wondering what type of grass grows the best on long island in a partially shady mostly sunny area and any other tips for lawn care(ie. when to use lime, use of peatmoss ect.) that people might have or possibly some good regional websites on the topic. The front yard will be mostly sunny not high traffic and the back yard is also a mix but is high traffic. Any help will be appreciated

whats the best type of seed to revive my lawn?

I moved into a rental house and our back lawns 70% weeds 25% dead weeds and 5% grass. I’ve been watering to get the grounds soft enough for seeding, but am unsure of what to use, when to plant, and how to care for it after seeding. Can somebody with experience give me tips on killing weeds and making some soft grass for my kids in the back yard. Plus any tips on sprinkler system would be helpful. Thanks alot all you answerers.

i have rotivated my back yard and sprinkle some grass seed over, then bought a sprinkler attachement for my hose.
I don’t want to ruin the garden by over watering it so need an amount of time i should use the sprinkler for a day.
any help i would be most thankful.
